A True Albertan

You know you're a true Albertan when you can smoke a whole cigarette with burning a whole in your mitten.  Or, if you're like me, you go mittenless and learn to suck back a king size in 3 1/2 minutes!  -13*C this morning with a wind chill taking us down to -20, so I think my record will prob'ly end up being down to 2 minutes.
Anyway, enough of that.  Here's a clip of some nuts overseas having some fun in the snow.  Enjoy   D

  1. ...having some fun in the snow.

That's FUN? I can see the Brit hitching up the ol' mare, but don't all Austrians have perfectly good ski slopes right in their back yards?

re: smoke breaks in the cold. Been there, done that, NOT fun.

  2. Deb, CRUD!!!! I shall now quit bitching about it being 27 F (above zero) here in Louisiana.

    You're a better man than I am.

We got super-slider skis (you have to remember those, 'bout 36" long) for Christmas one year and we actually did that! And we have some of the best skiing in the world right in our back yard (or so I'm told).

27 in 'Ouisianer must be a real bitch! But ours is a dry cold (that's gotta be beter, right?).

  4. Deb, there is some truth to the "dry cold" thing. Having lived 4 years on the Western slope of the Rockies at 6500 ft., I have experienced -10, dry cold.

It's about like 20 avobe damp cold here in the sunny south. A lot of folks don't realize that we regularly hit the mid-teens for lows...and we truly do suffer. At least I do.

  5. Please ignore that typo. My fingers aren't working so good this am.

    They're frozen.

  6. Heh! I got a kick out of seeing western saddles and cowboy hats in Europe.

Buck: Looks like fun to me, and a sure sight safer than hurtling down the side of snow covered mountain strapped to a couple 2x4's.

Deb, that is cold...I'll stop complaining to. Although the dry cold is better. We had a cold clear day yesterday, with low humidity, and I was perfectly comfortable outside without a coat. Go figure.

Don't worry about typos, I just realized that that post was loaded with them!

I agree with the 2x4 comment. That'd probably be why I haven't done it since Dec 26, 1980! (I remember the date 'cause it was colder'n the proverbial you-know-what and I had borrowed equipment on)

  8. I never thought about hitchin' up the horses. We just tie the sled to the four-wheeler and pull each other around the pasture here in the flat-lands. But when I lived in the mountains where there was lots of snow, I loved to strap on the "2x4's" and ski.

I liked the cowboy hat in the video too.

the 4-wheeler prob'ly gives a smoother ride than the horse would, but the horse doesn't get the exercise!
