Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda, Didn't
Thursday on my way home my little voice told me to go get dog food on my way as I didn't have enough to last until next week. I must have been having a stunned and stupid moment, 'cause I ended up going yesterday, Christmas eve. Holy crap! What should have been a 1/2 hour trip ended up taking me an hour. Traffic was just nuts at the strip mall that the dog fod store is in. Cars parked willy-nilly, half in and half out of parking stalls, parked crooked across 2 spaces and people having a hell of a time navigating in and out of what spaces were available. I took me 20 minutes to get back on the highway and then stop at the local beer store. The lot there was just as crazy as the other lot. Cars lined up all over the place waiting to get in to the car wash, spread out all over the place. I don't do well in traffic to begin with and by the time I got home I was in a full blown rant about ijits. We've become such a 'me first' society that it isn't even close to being funny. Where ever you're headed is still going to be there when you get there so c'mon people, learn how to drive and be courteous!

Heh. I spent TWO hours yesterday thinking "Should I? Do I absolutely HAVE to go?" My final decision was no, it could wait. But it MIGHT be a near-run thing! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI almost had myself talked out of it until I double-checked the food bin. RATS, gotta go!
ReplyDeleteI spent 2 hours riding my horse along the river. That was as far away as I ventured yesterday, and I suspect I'm thankful for it.
ReplyDeleteOur fellow humans seem to get extra stupid (at least at the shopping centers) this time of year, don't they. Glad you survived.

ReplyDeleteJust the thought of riding for a couple of hours makes me relax. So envious right now!
Deb, I'm late to comment on this. But...I put off my Christmas shopping until 11 pm on Dec. 23.
ReplyDelete(One day ahead of my normal schedule). I went to Walmart. Yeah, really.
There were 12 checkers open, and lines at least 12 deep. The parking lot was akin to a demolition derby, too.
I had to personally "assist" three "line-jumpers" to the back of the line in the space of about 15 minutes. Fortunately, I was still in my uniform, and armed, having come directly from work.
Sheesh! I'll never do that again. Next year, I'm gonna wait until the rush is over...maybe about New Year's Eve.

ReplyDeleteNew Years Eve isn't any better. When I was still with the FHU we ended up at the grocery store not only Christmas eve, but New Years as well. What a friggen nightmare!
Maybe I'll wait until Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
